In case of a laser vision correction using the LASIK method, in most of the centers in Poland, it is carried out only with the use of a microkeratome – a device used for mechanical flap creation. The cut made with the use of an innovative femtosecond laser is firstly made with a laser beam controlled by a computer. In comparison with the mechanical microkeratomes, the femtosecond laser provides a greater predictability of the created flap thickness (it can even be lessened to under 100 um), which allows for saving the cornea tissue, increasing safety of more developed vision defects.
